Zelda: Breath of the Wild | How to Dive

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the most well-known, popular games on the Nintendo Switch and has kept players engrossed in the world of Hyrule for years. As you explore the land, you’ll likely notice that there are multiple areas filled with waters that Link can swim through if he so chooses. Further, if you’ve found the “Diving is Beauty” sidequest, you’ll need to know how to dive in BOTW to complete the quest. Luckily, in this guide, we are going to explain everything you need to know about the diving mechanic.

How to Dive in BOTW

To dive in Breath of the Wild, you’ll need to make your way to a tall cliff, jump off, and press A while in the air. There will not be an on-screen prompt that says “dive,” like in previous titles, but if you press A again after jumping, Link will go into the diving form and into the water. However, it is worth noting that he will not stay underwater and will instantly come back up to the surface, as there isn’t an underwater swimming mechanic in BOTW.

If you’re trying to figure out how to dive in BOTW, then odds are you’ve come across the “Diving is Beauty” quest in Zora’s Domain, which will task players with diving off a ledge and then swimming back up the waterfall by using the Zora Armor. Players will get the quest by speaking with Gruve, a blue-colored creature along one of the ledges in Zora’s Domain.

Before you can complete the quest, you’ll need to pick up Zora’s Armor, which can be obtained from King Dorephan when you complete the “Divine Beast Vah Ruta” quest in Zora’s Domain. When you’ve completed that, be sure to equip the armor on Link, and with the knowledge of how to dive, you’ll be ready to go. Make your way back to Gruve and dive off of the ledge in front of him. When you hit the water, Gruve will acknowledge your dive and ask you to swim back up the waterfall. Simply head over to the waterfall and press A to swim back up.

Upon completion, you’ll need to head back over to Gruve and speak with him to receive five Fleet-Lotus seeds. When cooked into a dish, these seeds will increase Link’s movement speeds and will make traveling around much easier for Link.
